TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — An Illinois man serving a 15-year sentence in federal prison outside Orlando was shot and killed behind bars earlier this month, NBC News reported.
The family of 33-year-old Dwayne "DJ" Tottleben said they were shocked to receive a call from the prison on Oct. 10 telling them he was dead, but not offering any other details.
NBC News reported that a friend of Tottleben, Donna Ford, said she spoke to him that morning. She told NBC that he was in good spirits when they spoke and didn't seem agitated in any way.
Tottleben was being held at U.S. Penitentiary Coleman I, a high-security men's prison in Sumter County that houses around 1,400 inmates, according to their website. He was convicted of possession of methamphetamines with intent to distribute after being arrested
