Lawmakers are demanding answers after Saturday’s United States Marine Corps event at Camp Pendleton left at least two vehicles damaged by shrapnel.
A group of California Democratic lawmakers, including Rep. Mike Levin and Sens. Alex Padilla and Adam Schiff, have sent a letter to the Department of Defense demanding answers about Saturday’s live-artillery demonstration over the Interstate 5 freeway.
Gov. Gavin Newsom had the California Highway Patrol close down a 17-mile stretch of the I-5 freeway ahead of the event, calling the plans “reckless” and a “profoundly absurd show of force.”
