WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) - Watertown’s VFW post is celebrating a big milestone this weekend.
On Sunday, Barben-Jones VFW Post 1400 on Bellew Avenue will officially turn 100 years old.
On Friday, celebrations kick off with an open house. Saturday, a celebratory dinner will be held, and on Sunday, the VFW will host a cake cutting.
Post Commander Stephen Roberts tells 7 News he’s excited, but honoring 100 years of the post’s legacy is weighing on him.
“In one respect, it’s a huge honor. In the other one, I’m a little bit nervous. Why am I nervous? I’m nervous because I want to make sure that I can honor all of those veterans that built the post that we have today. We’re talking 100 years. 100 years ago, this is what was built and has been brought forward,” he said.
