A man was arrested in connection with a stabbing at the South Bay Center on Tuesday, according to the Boston Police Department.

Christopher Baez, 36, of Wakefield, faces charges of assault and battery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, the police department wrote on its website Wednesday afternoon. He was to be arraigned in the South Boston District Court on Wednesday, according to court records.

On Oct. 21 at 5:17 p.m., police in South Boston responded to a reported stabbing at 8 Allstate Road, the address of the mall.

When detectives arrived, one saw Baez with a box cutter in his left hand, police said. The detective ordered him to drop the box cutter but Baez refused and began to swing the box cutter, moving towards the detective, according to the police department.
