FLAGSTAFF, AZ (AZFamily) — A search and rescue operation is underway after two people were struck by lightning on Arizona’s highest peak late Wednesday morning.
Deputies with the Coconino County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to Arizona’s Family that two people were possibly struck on Humphreys Peak. A spokesperson with the sheriff’s office says search and rescue ground crews are currently working their way to the top of the peak.
Air support is grounded due to weather conditions in the area. Arizona’s Family witnessed two helicopters on the ground as rain was falling and heavy fog covered the mountain’s peak. Several patrol vehicles were also on scene as deputies canvassed the area.
