DUNNIGAN, Calif. —

A pedestrian was hit and killed by a big rig that did not stop along Interstate 5 near Dunnigan on Tuesday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officers were initially requested to the rest area off of I-5 at County Road 8 around 8 p.m. But as they were responding, they received another report of a pedestrian on the freeway.

Around 8:10 p.m., CHP said it received another call reporting that the pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle in the southbound lanes of I-5.

CHP said the pedestrian, a man, died at the scene.

Officials said the crash happened in a construction zone, so Caltrans workers were in the area and witnessed a white big rig with a grille guard in the front initially slowing down after hitting the pedestrian, but the big rig then continued dr
