DES MOINES, Iowa —

A trial date has been set for former Des Moines Public Schools Superintendent Ian Roberts, with court documents indicating that his trial will begin on Dec. 1.

Roberts was arrested last month by immigration officials , who claim he is not authorized to work in the U.S. and is in the country illegally.

Roberts is also charged with being an illegal alien in possession of a firearm and lying on his I-9 form submitted as part of the employment process to work for Des Moines Public Schools.

Roberts has pleaded not guilty to these charges.
