LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Leaders with the Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center are eyeing a new chapter for its facility, as they look to build new athletic fields.
President Sadiqa Reynolds said the field within the outdoor track was being overused for soccer and flag football and is no longer safe.
“We did not anticipate that kids would organically decide that that’s where they were going to play flag football. We did not anticipate that,” Reynolds said. “All of a sudden, soccer leagues and teams would grow up out of that green space. The challenge is because we didn’t anticipate it. We didn’t grade it for soccer.”
The fields’ unanticipated use made them unusable for soccer, leading to a $3.5 million project designed to build either four fields for youth or two fields of adult size
