JACKSON, Mich. (WILX) - A Jackson County man was sentenced to 60 months in jail on Wednesday for delivering fentanyl-laced drugs that led to a woman’s fatal overdose.

Circuit Court Judge John McBain sentenced 28-year-old Uriah Hale during the re-sentencing hearing.

Hale was originally sentenced to seven years in prison on charges of delivering a controlled substance causing death, but the Michigan Court of Appeals ruled those charges were inaccurate due to an error and reduced them to delivery of a controlled substance.

In 2019, 19-year-old Gabbie Scheffer died after taking heroin laced with fentanyl that Hale put in her mailbox.

Family members gathered in the courtroom, for a second time, to share their grief and the impact Gabbie’s death has had on their lives.
