San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie is directing local law enforcement to support immigrant communities, protect peaceful protestors and refrain from assisting with federal civil immigration enforcement — in line with the city’s sanctuary policy — ahead of the anticipated arrival of U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents in the Bay Area this week.
The mayor on Wednesday announced the new executive directive and said he had activated the city’s Department of Emergency Management shortly after reports that the Trump administration had dispatched roughly 100 federal agents from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Customs and Border Protection to the region. They are slated to arrive at the Alameda Coast Guard base on Thursday, KQED has confirmed.
