LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) - The Longmeadow Police Department is investigating an increase in reports of checks being stolen from the mail.
Longmeadow police said that these stolen checks are reportedly being altered and used to steal money from victims. In order for residents to protect themselves, police offer the following safety tips: • Drop off mail inside the post office and not into outdoor mailboxes, especially after hours. • When writing checks, use gel or indelible ink pens to prevent alterations. • When sending checks, confirm with recipients that your check was received. • Monitor your bank accounts for suspicious activity. • Consider using secure online bill payments.
