President Donald Trump is thinking about reviving the nomination of Elon Musk ally Jared Isaacman to lead America's space program, according to a new report.

Politico reported that Trump is considering nominating Isaacman to lead NASA, a role that is currently being filled by Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy. The move that has recently gained the support of Sen. Tim Sheehy (R-MT), according to the report.

Republicans previously blocked Isaacman's nomination because of concerns about his past donations to Democrats. Trump at one time referred to Isaacman as a "blue blood Democrat."

"The NASA job has taken on new urgency under Trump, who has made an expansion of human spaceflight a key element of his agenda — including a return trip to the moon by the end of Trump’s term," the report reads in part. "The agency also controls billions of dollars that will go to private companies, such as Elon Musk’s SpaceX, that try to make Trump’s vision a reality."

Isaacman, a billionaire, was an early investor in SpaceX, Musk's private space exploration company. He has also led two private space exploration missions for the company, according to reports.
