LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - On Wednesday, the State Senate Committee on Finance, Insurance, and Consumer Protection met to consider Bill 351 , which aims to regulate telephone solicitation.

The new bipartisan bill would put regulations on individuals and businesses contacting people for sale and donation purposes.

Senator Mark Huizenga said he receives multiple spam messages daily, including one that arrived just before the committee meeting started.

“I probably get two to three texts a day. And today at 11:59, I get a text, ”Hey Mark, it’s Charlie. How much could your business use if I have funds available today?“” Huizenga said.

Ben Winters is the Director of AI and Privacy at the Consumer Federation of America. He testified in favor of the bill and says it’s needed now more than ever.
