HERMANTOWN, Minn. (Northern News Now) - A proposed data center project in Hermantown has been temporarily paused after residents petitioned for additional environmental review.
An anonymous Fortune 50 company wants to build the data center at Midway Road and Morris Thomas Road. The building would be roughly 1.8 million square feet.
The citizen-led Stop the Hermantown Data Center group submitted a petition to the Minnesota Environmental Quality Board (EQB) requesting that Hermantown complete an environmental assessment worksheet (EAW). The group cited concerns about potential noise, light, and water pollution.
