Most of Vancouver Island has been placed under a weather warning, with parts getting a warning for rain and other parts for wind.

Environment Canada issued the warnings between 4 and 5 p.m., with west and inland Vancouver Island getting a warning for heavy rain, and east and north being warned of wind.

Rain warning

Environment Canada says west and inland Vancouver Island are forecast to see 80 mm of rain, with up to 140 mm near Gold River and Zeballos.

The rain is supposed to start overnight on Wednesday, and continue through Thursday.

“Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads,” the warning says.

“Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.”

East and north Vancouver Island are expected to see strong winds.
