GREENSBORO, N.C. — She may not be riding shotgun in a fire engine or putting out flames just yet, but Greensboro Fire’s newest recruit is already stealing hearts across the department.

The 8-week-old golden retriever has the big brown eyes, the softest fur, and a tail wag that can light up a room. She’s also making a bit of local history.

“We have an 8-week-old golden retriever who is on the journey to becoming the Greensboro Fire Department's first therapy dog,” said Captain Shawn Hyatt, who has volunteered to be her handler. “She will undergo training in about four months in Charlotte, and when she comes back, she’ll be available to help everybody.”

The pup only arrived Sunday, but in just three days, she’s already made herself at home — and left an impression on firefighters.
