DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) - Blood donors have one less needle to worry about, thanks to new technology at ImpactLife.
The blood center is now using a new non-invasive testing device called OrSense, which eliminates the need for a finger prick in pre-screening.
The device uses a sensor that shines light through the skin to detect your hemoglobin level, which is necessary to see if you’re eligible to give blood, according to ImpactLife officials.
OrSense not only eliminates the finger stick but will also cut down on the use of bio-hazardous waste like lancets, gloves and bandages.
The new technology is already being used at ImpactLife locations in Davenport, Iowa City and Cedar Rapids.
