One of the most successful ventures to emerge from Canberra is to close because it's grown too big and successful to cope.
NatureMapr grew from small beginnings to become a national forum for people to register their sightings of rare plants.
It was used by scientists and governments to understand biodiversity better. It's helped in the early identification of invasive plants so they can be dealt with before they spread beyond control. It's enabled the ACT and NSW governments to better monitor the environment.
But it's to close down nationally next year, with a reprieve for the Canberra version until 2029.
