The South Haven Department of Public Works is welcoming additional road funding included in the new state budget.
Speaking to the city council this week, the department’s Dana Burd said the new budget will increase local road funding by 33% to 54% in the next several years.
“ That equates to around $260 ,000 upwards of $420 ,000 a year over the next five years,” Burd said. “ So that’s really welcome news, but I want to remind folks that does only equate to about 10 % of our overall revenue that we spend maintaining, operating, keeping clean, and improving the roads.”
Burd said with more than 30 miles of road to maintain, that extra funding won’t cover every need, but it does help. He
