BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Your used tires could help a family in need stay warm this winter.

“Wheels for Warmth” kicks off this weekend.

The annual program collects used tires and sells them to Vermonters in need of a new set of wheels.

The money raised from the event goes towards emergency heating assistance through community action agencies.

The program has raised over $700,000 and sold roughly 27,000 tires to families.

Governor Phil Scott, who founded the program 20 years ago, says tire donations are critical.

There are collection sites in Barre, Lyndon, Stowe, Pittsford, and Williston. Tire sales kick off on October 25th.
