IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) - Iowa men’s basketball will tip off its season in less than two weeks against Robert Morris, setting up an intriguing matchup for one of the Hawkeyes’ most notable transfers.

Alvaro Folguerias, a 6-foot-10-inch transfer from Robert Morris, will face his former team in his first game as a Hawkeye. The Spanish forward was the Horizon League Player of the Year as a sophomore and has played with the Spanish national team.

Folguerias averaged 14 points and nine rebounds per game last season, including 15 points against Alabama in the NCAA Tournament. Despite his size, he shot 41 percent from three-point range.

The combination of size and playmaking ability allows Folguerias to impact how Iowa approaches games, according to coach Ben McCollum.
