MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. (WNDU) - Michigan City Street Department will begin its fall leaf pickup program on Monday November 3rd.

For weekly pick-up residents may leave their leaves in compost and yard waste bags or in leaf piles.

The department says that plastic bags and toters will not be accepted. Compost and yard waste bags can be found from area merchants.

The leaves collected in bags should be placed in front of property to be picked up by the Refuse Department.

Residents are asked to cooperate and follow leaf-pick rules.

Leaf Pick-up rules:

Leaves to be collected in paper yard bags or 32-gallon trash bags

No plastic bags

No toters

No leaf piles containing other green waste debris, branches, rocks, animal waste, or metal

Leaf piles to be loose and in large piles
