GENTRY, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — A family-owned dairy farm in Gentry says it's giving up a guaranteed paycheck in order to supply farm-fresh raw milk to Northwest Arkansas residents.
Gary Holland of Holland Dairy says the farm officially cut ties with its big-name buyer on Friday.
"They were good to us, but we decided it was time to do something different. We felt like we needed to do something to put out there for healthier food," Holland said. "The biggest thing about stepping away from the milk company is probably the financial need. It costs a lot of money to operate a dairy farm. Whether you're milking ten cows or 110 cows. Most people don't realize the expense."
Since Act 698 of the Regular Session was passed, restrictions on selling raw unpasteurized milk in Arkansas, have loosened up.
