POWELL, Tenn. — More than 100 people gathered at Powell Church to remember Savannah Copeland and support each other a year after her death.

She was killed on Oct. 22, 2024. Her father, Michael Copeland, said the family hadn't planned to do anything one year later.

"We had originally planned to do nothing. Just be angry and sad, as many are. Then we found out that a lot of the kids who were also affected by this were very aware of the day," he said. "We didn't want them sitting around feeling sad because that shouldn't be the most healthy way to deal with grief."

Copeland said while the last year hasn't been easy, the community's support has helped. That support showed at Wednesday night's event.
