BOSTON — So, that was quite the debut.

With one game, with 48 minutes of basketball, V.J. Edgecombe etched himself into Philadelphia 76ers lore and into the annals of NBA history. In a 117-116 win over the Boston Celtics at TD Garden, the rookie guard from Baylor scored 34 points.

Edgecombe’s point total is the third highest in NBA history, behind Wilt Chamberlain (43 in 1959) and Frank Selvy (35 in 1954). It was also the highest scoring output in a debut in Sixers history, besting Allen Iverson’s 30 points in his first NBA game in 1996.
