Hempfield didn’t exactly sprint into the District 3 3A field hockey tournament. However, the 14th and final seed is planning to hang out for a while.

Talia Leber connected on a pair of third quarter goals and the Black Knights overcame a 2-0 deficit to outpace third-seeded Conestoga Valley 4-3 Wednesday in opening round action.

Hempfield, stung 4-3 by the Buckskins in early September, erased CV’s early surge with goals by Nikhollina Conrad and Kendall Hartenstein a mere 38 seconds apart in the second stanza.

Scoring strikes by Paige Hershey and Brooke Harting redirect, off an Etienne Dillman assist, had the Buckskins (17-2) in control until the Knights dug in.

Dillman’s unassisted post early in the second seemed to restore order for the Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 2 champs.
