PHOENIX (AZFamily) — The community received an update on court-ordered reforms at the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office that have cost taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars during a meeting held at the federal courthouse Wednesday.
The meeting was moved to the federal courthouse after Judge G. Murray Snow expressed safety concerns about the last gathering. It also comes after an audit found MCSO inflated the cost of the reforms.
Judge provides case background
Snow spent the first hour of the meeting providing background on the case, which dates back to 2008 when Latino drivers sued then-Sheriff Joe Arpaio and the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office. The drivers successfully argued they had been racially profiled. There were also concerns regarding how MCSO was policing its own.
