Grimes has unveiled a "truly novel and innovative" face tattoo.
Taking to X on Wednesday, the singer-songwriter posted a photo in which she is seen with a dark red circle around her left eye.
In the accompanying caption, Grimes - real name Claire Boucher - claimed "nobody noticed" the body art after she got inked a "few months ago".
"I got a face tattoo a few months ago and literally nobody noticed, not even my parents lol. (I don't know why) this face tattoo is imperceptible but just for the record it's my fave tat (sic)," she wrote.
Grimes went on to credit tattoo artist Glyphomancer, who specialises in the cybersigilism aesthetic, for the design.
And a short time later, the Oblivion star shared in an Instagram post that she had been want to get a face tattoo for the past decade.
"Spent like ten years emotionally working up to a face tattoo but I guess I drew on my face too much and literally no one noticed, not even my parents, not even after the video lol," the 37-year-old continued. "That said I think @glyphomancer is onto something truly novel and innovative with her work esp on face tats - there's a true beauty, delicacy, and innovation here imo (in my opinion). Feel like tats are in a crazy renaissance period that's sort of under appreciated atm (at the moment)."
However, the tattoo quickly sparked debate among fans, with many noting they were baffled by the reason why Grimes chose that particular design.
"Is the face tattoo in the room with us?" one follower asked, while another commented: "You could have the coolest face tattoo ever but you have this instead. I'm sorry but I'm so confused."
Grimes, who shares three children with Elon Musk, released a new single, Artificial Angels, last week.
