BOISE, Idaho — Several republican lawmakers for the state of Idaho are pushing back against the state's grocery tax and helping volunteers collect enough signatures for voters to decide whether to keep it or not.

State Rep. Clint Hostetler, R-Twin Falls, said he and other members of what's being called the "Gang of Eight" are helping to gather support for repealing Idaho's 6% sales tax on groceries.

Hostetler said he's joining in on the fight because it's the right thing to do for his constituents and Idahoans.

"Now is the time to repeal this grocery tax," said Hostetler, who represents District 24, which includes Camas, Gooding and Twin Falls counties. "We're actually one of only four [states] that fully tax groceries, and California doesn't even tax groceries."
