A man whose "good character" helped him get work at a childcare centre where he abused a child will remain behind bars after a judge found he showed no remorse.

On Thursday, October 23, Muhammad Ali was sentenced by the ACT Supreme Court to a two-year jail term with an 18-month non-parole period.

Acting Justice Peter Berman said Ali's "prior good character" helped him get the job at the childcare centre, which gave him the opportunity to commit the offence.

"It is hard to imagine a more significant breach of trust," the judge said.

"[Parents] are entitled to assume their children will not be used by a childcare worker for their own sexual gratification, as the offender has done here.

"It is apparent the young boy suffered greatly."
