England's King Charles III will not have a runner in this year's Melbourne Cup after Torranzino won the rescheduled Geelong Cup on Thursday afternoon.
The Paul Preusker-trained Torranzino — ridden by Celine Gaudray — caused an upset, beating the hot favourite Gilded Water to win the 2,400m feature race at Geelong.
The race was rescheduled after high, dangerous winds across Victoria on Wednesday forced the postponement of the last six races on the Cup day card.
The Jason Warren-trained Grand Pierro and last year's Geelong Cup winner Onesmoothoperator were withdrawn from the race after the postponement, in favour of Friday's Moonee Valley Gold Cup.
Gilded Water was bred by the late Queen Elizabeth II and is owned by King Charles III.
