SRINAGAR, Oct 23: Legislators from the National Conference (NC), Congress, and several other parties staged a peaceful protest outside the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Thursday morning, demanding the release of incarcerated Doda MLA Mehraj Malik.

According to details available with news agency the protesting MLAs carried placards calling for Malik’s immediate release. The demonstration took place just before the commencement of the Autumn session of the Assembly in Srinagar.

Malik, an AAP legislator from Doda, was booked under the Public Safety Act (PSA) in September and is currently lodged in Kathua Central Jail.

The protest came ahead of a session expected to see heated debates over statehood restoration, employment regularisation, and other key political issues. (KNO)
