The City of Toronto’s human rights office has seen a significant increase in demand over the last five years that showed no signs of slowing down in 2024, according to a new report.

The number of inquiries to the office, which serves city employees and residents interacting with municipal services, has increased by 89 per cent since 2019 and went up 32 per cent in 2024, according to the report before the general government committee Th ursday. The vast majority of inquiries relate to complaints and accommodation.

About two-thirds of the inquiries came from city employees, with 1,050 in 2024 compared to 833 in 2023. It's an increase the union representing thousands of city workers is concerned about.
