The family of a man who died at a northern New South Wales police station two years ago told an inquest into his death that the final tragic hours of his life did not sum up the kind of man he was.

The coronial inquest into the death of 48-year-old Phillip Mark Walton at the Casino Police Station on March 19, 2023 was in its fourth day of hearings at Lismore Court House, when the family shared how it had impacted their lives.

Mr Walton was described as a man who loved his family, was a die-hard fan of the Parramatta Eels, and was partial to banana bread and potato salad. He also loved spending time near the water and drawing. But most of all, the court heard, he loved his family.
