LUBBOCK — What were you doing four years ago in November 2021?

That’s the last time one of Canyon’s cross country teams left the UIL Class 4A State Cross Country meet without hoisting the team championship trophy.

Since then, two teams from a town of 20,000 people have reeled off four combined state titles, bringing countless trophies and medals back to the Texas Panhandle along the way.

Wes Kirton's Eagles have won three consecutive state championships, while Ray Baca's Lady Eagles won three consecutive titles in Class 5A from 2018-20 before again reaching the mountaintop in Class 4A last season.

The Eagles’ impressive run has a chance to continue in 2025, as Canyon’s boys and girls cross country teams each dominated the Region I-4A meet in Lubbock on Tuesday, Oct. 21.
