As the federal government shutdown drags on, Americans are feeling disruptions in their day-to-day lives. Many federal workers are not allowed to work, so government services have stopped or slowed, and funding for some programs has run dry or threatens to run dry soon.
Notably, however, Social Security payments to seniors, Americans with disabilities and others continue to be distributed. The US Postal Service is continuing to deliver the mail. Some states have said they are using their own funds to keep open certain national parks.
