YORK, Maine - The York High School volleyball team was in the gym on Wednesday, Oct. 22 preparing for the upcoming Class B tournament.

Many state championship banners adorn the walls at York's Robert Butler Gymnasium, but one thing is missing - a volleyball banner.

The York program began in 2016, and reached its first Class B state championship game last fall, falling to Washington Academy, 3-1.

This year, under first-year head coach Kevin Hill, the Wildcats went 13-1 in the regular season and is the No. 1 seed in the 10-team Class B tournament. York will play host to the winner of Friday's first-round game between No. 4 Brewer and No. 5 Messalonskee in a quarterfinal game on Saturday.
