Former state senator and state representative Darren Bailey has announced the loss of his son, daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren, after a helicopter crash in Montana.

Details surrounding the crash that killed Bailey’s son Zachary, wife Kelsey, 12-year-old Vada Rose and 7-year-old Samuel are still unclear at this point.

A third grandson, 10-year-old Finn, was not in the helicopter and is safe.

“Darren and Cindy are heartbroken by this unimaginable loss,” a statement on Bailey’s Facebook page Wednesday night said. “They are finding comfort in their faith, their family, and the prayers of so many who love and care for them.”

Bailey announced a campaign run in September for Illinois governor, after running against Gov. J-B Pritzker in 2022.
