JAMESTOWN — Ken Gardner has spent hours at Parkhurst Recreation Area coaching the Jamestown High School cross-country team — and sometimes chopping down trees.
During the summer, when he is not coaching the JHS cross-country or track and field teams, Gardner works with the Jamestown Parks and Recreation Department to mow and maintain about 25 miles worth of trails including the site of Jamestown's cross-country meets.
This year, he had his work cut out for him.
"Every year I try to get a few projects done here and there but I haven't had time for those because in the north end between the half mile and mile mark, there is a pine forest they run through and there were about 50 trees down across the trail," Gardner said.
