In his victory speech on Tuesday, incoming mayor Andrew Knack claimed, “Edmonton chose independent leadership” in Monday’s municipal election. That means, I presume, voters didn’t choose many candidates from the two parties in the race, Better Edmonton and the Principled Accountable Coalition for Edmonton (PACE).

Mr. Mayor, just because your party won’t call itself a party doesn’t mean it isn’t a party.

Working Families Edmonton — a coalition of unions and environmentalists — helped the candidates it endorsed in every way registered parties do. It helped with canvassing, social media and get-out-the-vote (GOTV), among other aspects.
