There was big news that came from law enforcement on Thursday involving the sports world: The Department of Justice and Eastern District of New York announced "numerous arrests in illegal sports betting and poker games schemes," per a media advisory.

Joseph Nocella Jr. -- a U.S. attorney in the Eastern District of New York along with others including FBI director Kash Patel -- made announcements surrounding one indictment involving current and former NBA players, along with one that was about fraud that came from illegal poker games.

There's already reportedly been an arrest of an NBA player and there may be more coming. Here's our recap from all the news of Thursday morning:

More details emerged on Terry Rozier

U.S. attorney Joseph Nocella Jr. announced more details

This was two major cases involving fraud and "rigged poker games"

  • Six defendants are alleged to participate in sports corruption. There was an insider sports betting conspiracy involving NBA teams and franchises. There was non-public information that was used to place bets, such as injury info. In one case, there was "threatening" Jontay Porter -- already banned permanently from the NBA -- due to his gambling debts.
  • 31 defendants were indicted in a scheme involving rigged illegal poker games. Defendants used technology to rig the games to tell someone who had the best hands. That information was sent to someone at the table, who signaled the info.
  • There are three overlapping defendants in both of these that included Damon Jones

Kash Patel announced the details in the arrests

"Over 30 individuals" were arrested including Rozier, Billups and Jones, and "La Cosa Nostra" as involved as well.

Patel said that there were "tens of millions" of dollars in fraud, theft and robbery over a number of years that were involved here.

Terry Rozier's lawyer released a statement

From Jim Trusty:

"We have represented Terry Rozier for over a year. A long time ago we reached out to these prosecutors to tell them we should have an open line of communication. They characterized Terry as a subject, not a target, but at 6 a.m. this morning they called to tell me FBI agents were trying to arrest him in a hotel. It is unfortunate that instead of allowing him to self surrender they opted for a photo op. They wanted the misplaced glory of embarrassing a professional athlete with a perp walk. That tells you a lot about the motivations in this case. They appear to be taking the word of spectacularly in-credible sources rather than relying on actual evidence of wrongdoing. Terry was cleared by the NBA and these prosecutors revived that non-case. Terry is not a gambler, but he is not afraid of a fight, and he looks forward to winning this fight."
