Andy Burnham was ‘taken aback’ by a decision to clear Rochdale ’s iconic ‘Seven Sisters’ tower blocks, forcing hundreds from their homes.
Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH) announced the evacuation yesterday (October 22) after independent surveys identified a variety of safety issues. It means 229 households will move on in the coming months, RBH confirmed.
But the announcement ‘was news to’ Andy Burnham , the mayor revealed on Thursday morning (October 23).

“I was a little taken aback by this move. It was news to me late last night,” the mayor told BBC Radio Manchester .
