Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday (October 23) extended Bhai Dooj greetings to the nation. “Heartfelt wishes to all of you on the occasion of Bhai Dooj. May this festival, symbolizing the mutual love and trust between brother and sister, bring happiness, prosperity, and good fortune into everyone’s life,” he posted on X.

Bhai Dooj is celebrated in many parts of India to honour the bond between brothers and sisters, although arguably the more popular festival celebrating siblings is Rakshabandhan, or Raakhi.

While Raakhi is celebrated on the full moon day or Poornima of the Shravan month of the Hindu calender, Bhai Dooj falls on the second day of the waxing moon phase ( shukla paksha ) of the Kartik month.
