Odisha Vigilance secured a major conviction today as the Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar sentenced Sarat Kumar Rout, former Junior Clerk at the office of the Drugs Inspector, Jajpur Road, to four years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine.
Authorities had earlier dismissed Rout from service after charging him under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Investigators found that Rout demanded and accepted a bribe of ₹6,000 from a complainant in exchange for issuing a drug license.
The court found Rout guilty and ordered immediate jail custody to serve his sentence. Odisha Vigilance had filed the charge sheet following a detailed probe into the bribery allegations.
