President Donald Trump on Wednesday sent an unknown number of federal immigration agents to a Coast Guard base in Alameda, preceding what a Coast Guard spokesperson said would be a Bay Area-wide operation.
Protests arrived to the isolated base early on Thursday morning. Coast Guard Island, where the agents are expected to stay, is a 67-acre artificial island connected to the East Bay by a single, two-lane bridge.
