King Charles has been given a new title from the Pope as part of his historic state visit to Vatican City.

The monarch, 76, and Queen Camilla, 78, arrived in Rome on Wednesday, October 22, ahead of a day filled with events in Vatican City today.

In a major moment for both the Catholic Church and the Church of England, both leaders have prayed together in public for the first time since the Reformation.

The image of Christian unity and care for the environment is a key factor for the trip as the King and the new Pope Leo XIV meet each other for the first time.

Pope Leo XIV has now bestowed an honour on the King with the title of the Royal Confrater of the Abbey and Basilica of St Paul’s Outside the Walls.
