The Andhra Pradesh government is preparing to finalise the reorganisation of districts; expanding the current number from 26 to 32; most probably in January in line with the promises made during the elections.

A cabinet sub-committee has already initiated deliberations, and preliminary proposals for new districts and mandal boundaries are reportedly ready.

According to sources, under the new proposal, six new districts - Palasa, Amaravati, Markapuram, Gudur, Madanapalle, and Rajampet - are expected to be created, though minor changes could be made before the final notification.

The exercise may also involve shifting district headquarters and realigning revenue divisions. Significantly, Amaravati, the proposed capital region, is likely to be designated as a separate district.
