The Coppell football team put District 5-6A, and perhaps the entire area, on notice when they handed Lewisville their first loss of the year, 41-23, on Friday evening at Buddy Echols Field. The win shifted the top of the standings and took Coppell from third place to a chance at claiming the district championship for a third year in a row.

The Cowboys’ defense was phenomenal, forcing six turnovers against an offense that has prevailed against powerhouse opposition. Of those six turnovers, sophomore safety Anthony Lewis flashed instinct and athleticism by coming down with three interceptions, including a fourth-quarter grab on the sideline that sealed the Coppell victory. Along with his crucial turnovers, he also added two tackles and another pass break-up.
