The Defence Ministry on Thursday approved proposals to procure advanced weapons and military equipment worth around ₹79,000 crore. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
The package includes the purchase of NAG missiles to destroy enemy tanks and bunkers. Landing platform docks will be constructed to facilitate operations from sea to land. Advanced lightweight torpedoes will also be procured to neutralise submarines at sea. In addition, super-rapid guns will be acquired.
Several important systems for the Navy, the Indian Army and the Air Force are included, aimed at enhancing the forces’ capability and deployment. Earlier, on 5 August, proposals worth around ₹67,000 crore had been approved.
