Hyderabad, Oct 23 : Telangana Jagruthi president Kalvakuntla Kavitha extended full support to the Village Organization Assistants (VOAs) staging a protest at Dharna Chowk, Indira Park, and said she is ready to “ face lathi charges ” for their rights.

Kalvakuntla Kavitha urged the government to raise VOA salaries from Rs 8,000 to Rs 26,000 as promised and called for immediate action on pending welfare assurances. She addressed the gathering as the chief guest and asked VOAs to stand firm and demand what is due to them.

Kavitha said Congress leaders had promised Rs 26,000 salaries to VOAs during the recent elections but failed to honor the commitment after coming to power. She alleged the government entered office
